Importing a vehcice into Panama

E-mail Print PDF

Q: I have a Chevy van I want to bring to Panama. Can you reccomend someone to assist with that?

A: My best advice is DON’T DO IT. Panama charges a fortune to import vehicles (forget the Pensionada's "free importing a vehcle every two years") it takes a long time with many delays to get it out of customs - and unless they have parts for it here - they will never be able to fix it.

Chevy is not a common make here. My brother had a Chevy Blazer - and he had to trash it, because engine parts were just not available and importing parts was too expensive. He couldn't even sell it.

Unless it is a very rare or incredibly special vehicle - my advice is to sell it there and buy an Asian- make vehicle here - Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Honda, Kia - something they have parts for and can fix. Rob
